Repair, rekey or replace
A worn ignition can often be repaired, or rekeyed so it works smoothly with a new key. When the ignition is broken or was forced, it is replaced and keyed to your keys, and a chip key is programmed so the car starts. We tell you which one your car needs before any work starts.
Before you call
Check that the car is in Park and turn the steering wheel gently while turning the key. If the key turns only when you jiggle it, the key itself may be worn, and a new key cut to the original code can fix it.

Common questions
My key won't turn in the ignition. What should I check first?
Make sure the car is in Park (or Neutral for a manual), then turn the steering wheel gently left and right while turning the key. A locked steering wheel is the most common cause.
Can you repair the ignition, or does it have to be replaced?
It depends on the car and the damage. A worn ignition can often be repaired or rekeyed to your key. A broken or forced ignition is usually replaced and keyed to new keys.
Will my old key work after the ignition is replaced?
The new ignition can often be keyed to match your existing key. If not, new keys are cut and programmed so one key works the doors and the ignition.
