What a smart key is
A smart (proximity) key lets you unlock the doors and start the engine with a button while the key stays in your pocket. It has to be programmed to the car. A copy that is only cut will not start the engine. Most smart keys also hold a small emergency blade for the door lock, and that blade is cut too.
- Spare smart key
Add a second smart key while one still works. It is simpler than replacing the last one.
- All smart keys lost
No smart key at all? A new one is programmed to the car where it is parked.
All keys lost → - “Key not detected”
Try a new battery in the key first. If the message stays, the key may need programming or replacement.
- Emergency key blade
The metal blade inside the smart key, cut to fit your door lock.
Smart key or remote fob?
If the car starts with a button, it uses a smart key. If you turn a key in the ignition and the buttons only lock and unlock, it is a remote head key or a remote fob: see key fob programming.

How it works
- Call or WhatsApp (956) 414-0903. Tell us the year, make and model, and whether you still have a working key.
- We come to the car, in McAllen or a nearby city.
- The smart key is programmed at the vehicle and tested: doors, push-to-start and the emergency blade.
If all keys are lost, the person asking for the key should be able to show that the car is theirs (for example ID and registration or title). If your model needs a dealer-only step, we say so on the call. Related: car key replacement.
Common questions
My car says “key not detected”. What should I do?
Replace the battery in the smart key first. Many cars also let you start the engine by holding the key against the start button. If the message stays, the key may need programming or replacement.
Can you add a spare smart key?
Yes, for most push-to-start makes and models. Adding a spare while one key still works is simpler than replacing the last key.
