With one working key, a spare is cut and programmed from it. With all keys lost there is nothing to copy, so the key is made for the vehicle and programmed to the car. It is a longer job than a spare, and it is the reason to make a spare once you have a key again.

How a new key is made with no original

A new blade is cut to fit the locks, and the chip or smart key is programmed to the car with a programming tool. Both are done at the vehicle when the car allows it. The key is tested in the door and the ignition before we leave.

For your protection, the person asking for the key should be able to show that the car is theirs (for example ID and registration or title). If a model needs a dealer-only step, we tell you on the call.
